The Reluctant Duke- excerpt

“He is so malleable. Nothing like my dear husband, the real Duke.”
Colin’s backbone stiffened at this evidence of how his sister in law really saw him. All this time he had thought she would be happy as his wife, how wrong he had been. He could only imagine how miserable she would have made his life if he had married her. Being compared to his brother for every day of his life? The thought was enough to weaken his knees.
“Malleable, how?” asked her eager friend.
“Well, just last week his wife wrote to him asking him to visit her in Scotland. During the Season, can you imagine that? Intolerable.” Honoria sounded quite disgusted at the prospect despite the fact that she had left London for a month to join him and his new wife at their estate.
Colin tried to recall the day Honoria was talking about, but could barely remember that day. His butler had read him the letter whilst he had been in his cups and he did not remember how he had replied.
“And he chose not to go?” The other woman asked, obviously surprised.
“Of course he wanted to go. But his mother made it clear that his wife was just having a fit of the vapours and that she could wait another few months.”
Colin gasped and then quickly covered his mouth. He did remember his mother raving something about Annabelle that night, but he rarely listened to his mother anymore.

The Reluctant Duke- excerpt

This is an excerpt from The Reluctant Duke. Due out 21st Feb, (fingers crossed)
Enjoy

“I’m sorry you have been so miserable Annabelle.”
“Oh Colin...” Annabelle cried, ready to tell him how much she would miss him, how much she loved him, how much she wanted her baby to bridge the chasm between them.
She was stopped by the look in his eyes. Annabelle saw nothing but regret and loathing. Whether it was directed at him or her she did not know but she knew this was not the time for such declarations. Especially with her emotions on the verge of no return.
If she declared her love only to be rebuffed she did not think her heart could bare it. She would have to wait until her armour was a little stronger. Standing up with as much grace as she could gather she said the last words she would say to her husband for months.
“I’ll go and start packing.”

Imogene Nix: The next best thing

Hi everyone.

The lovely Imogene Nix has answered the 10 questions for The next best thing for me.
She is the author of the brilliant series Warriors of the Elector.
Have a read of her responses:

1) What is the working title of your next book?

Starburst

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

It was the natural conclusion to my Warriors of the Elector series.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

Science Fiction romance

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Jonathon Rhys-Meyers as Chowd and Jessica Alba at Meredith

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

On the eve of the final battle 2 lovers struggle in a fight for good and true evil.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Nope it's released by Secret Cravings Publishing.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

This took the longest amount of time of any of my books - 6 months of back and forth.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Rebels and Lovers from Linnea Sinclair or even Freedom's Challenge by Anne McCaffrey

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Wow... there wasn't any single person or single event that inspired it.  I was about halfway through Starline when I realised the book couldn't tell the whole story and it was meant to be a series.  It was then a matter of working out what happened... not an easy task for someone who doesn't plot :)

10) What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?

The science facts used throughout this series are all factually based.  Maybe the lines are blurred a little, but the basis is actually heavily researched first.

Then you need to round up five of your favourite authors so they can answer those questions next week!

Khloe, Donna Gallagher, Willsin Rowe?  I'm struggling a bit here though.  I guess if you like you could ask Kathrine... I'm not so sure though that should would participate :D
